Notes on avoir
Avoir is irregular in the present (ai, as, a, avons, avez, ont), the future (aurai) and the subjunctive (que j'aie, qu'il ait).
As an auxiliary it forms the compound tenses of most verbs: j'ai mangé, nous avions fini. Watch the spelling: il a (verb) vs à (preposition), and qu'il ait (subjunctive) vs il est.
